The new divorce law that will end the blame game

From today, Wednesday 6th April 2022 there will be fundamental changes made to the divorce process.

The no-fault divorce legislation is the biggest change to divorce law in over 50 years and will help to end the blame game. Previously one partner would have to accuse the other of desertion, adultery or unreasonable behaviour. If not, couples would have to spend two years living apart if both agreed or five years apart if one partner objected.

The new law now means that married couples can divorce without having to place blame or give a reason for the breakdown of their marriage. The same law will also apply to the dissolution of civil partnerships.
